What do you guys make of this? iPlayer/VPN strangeness

Running GiP 3.09 on Linux Mint, connecting using a VPN for privacy purposes.

Using GiP's PVR

First program downloads successfully.
Next few I get the dreaded "The BBC has blocked access to this
programme because it has determined that you are using get_iplayer
outside the UK." message.
Then Silent Witness downloads successfully.

I immediately restarted the PVR, and all shows that got the error were
we retrieved with no problem.

Same VPN IP address was being used throughout.

WTF?
