thanks for your prompt answer
 I changed absolutely nothing
 I am  indeed using a vpn
I restarted windows (which i did not do yesterday after downloading
v.2.99)and that seems to have done the trick although it was working fine
yesterday??
The lord windows works in mysterious ways!
 modes  best and hls best now working
