downloading with hlsbest and vpn connection

I used the following command

Get_iplayer  --subtitles  --get 1640  --tvmode=best  --type=tv  --force

then after reading the archives I used

Get_iplayer  --subtitles  --get 1640  --tvmode=hlsbest  --type=tv  --force



 but as I am outside the uk and having to use a vpn connection it takes 
about five hours to download 60 mins of hd

 any suggestions welcome
