Good Better Best. --- How can I record "Decent"?

Hi Folks

I finally got around to installing the latest Windows version with the 
Good/Better/Best options.

But, I was wondering, is there a way to have "Decent" or "Barely 
Passable" recordings?

There are times when I just want to download a record of some programs, 
for instance Local News, or (in this latest instance) one of the Hairy 
Bikers programmes made some interesting points about immigration in 
Scotland which I wanted to research more fully, but I am not interested 
in seeing them in full detailed glory. I just want to download them 
using the minimum watchable setting.

What option(s) can I set?

Also, an added question, if I may.

Why is it that I have never been successful in downloading a single 
program, using the Queue option?

I can generally download using "Add Series", or "Record", but "Queue" 
never works for me. Are there some caveats I need to look out for?
