According to the Guardian ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/sep/04/bbc-mobile-download-iplayer-smartphone ) iPad/iPod/iPhone users will be able to download direct to their devices and play whilst offline either from today or shortly.

In the comments section, get_iplayer is mentioned directly as well, so there may be more traffic on the list.....
