Thanks aB. I decided on the ffmpeg/avidemux solution because I want to
give the footage to the friend with whom I attended the fencing. The
simplest way to do so is on 3 DVDs by splitting my 9.5 GB .mp4 into 3
sections. Not so easy to do with your .mkv suggestion.
