Ah, that bug is actually fixed in a later commit after the 2.79 tag!

You need to download the latest version of the file:

http://git.infradead.org/get_iplayer.git/blob_plain/HEAD:/get_iplayer

Save this as get_iplayer over the version in your program files directory.

--update should then work (but report nothing to update as this is the
latest version)
