The latest version from mplayer-win32 on sourceforge is the one I am using...

I checked random versions back to 13 Oct 2010 (when 0.6.1 was tagged) and they all seemed to work. I believe the last version available to the get_iplayer Windows installer works. This is marked r26400 (17 Jan 2011), which is the last version built from Subversion (thus the integer revision number) before the ffmpeg project moved over to Git. I'm using version git-ae7a4a1 on OSX. That is a HEAD build via Homebrew from 9 Apr 2011. The ffmpeg project has cut a new release 0.6.9-rc0, and although it built OK for me on OSX, all it gave me were a load of segfaults. The MacPorts and Fink builds are too old, so if you can use Homebrew (not a small thing, I know) and do a HEAD build you should be able to generate a pretty capable version without much sweat. If you want to roll your own, start with the somewhat outdated instructions below and adjust to suit.
