Broken list threads

I am also guilty through ignorance of inadvertently breaking threads.
I've not used mailing lists before. I read the page about mail
etiquette, but could not find any instructions on how to email from the
mailing list (some of us are novices).

I opted for daily digests by email. That says:

> Send get_iplayer mailing list submissions to
> get_iplayer at lists.infradead.org

> When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific

But it says nothing about how to reply to an existing thread.

The daily digest gives Message-IDs some of which are hyperlinked and
some not, but the hyperlinks appear to me to be meaningless e.g.

I wrongly assumed I reply to an existing thread by using:

I was also confused by the header hyperlink at the top of a message
archive as it gives a subject heading of

when I expected 

> Broken lists thread

Now things are a bit clearer.
