no sound - powerbook g4

On my Powerbook G4 Ti 867MHz, sound worked after I added the following 
to /etc/modprobe.conf:

alias snd-card-0 dmasound_pmac
install dmasound_pmac /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install dmasound_pmac && 
/usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove dmasound_pmac { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; 
}; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove dmasound_pmac

I've no idea what's the difference between dmasound_pmac and 
snd_powermac (but I'm sure I'll have after some googling) and I didn't 
try the other. /etc/sysconfig/hwconf says snd_powermac for me too (but 
I didn't know about that file before you mentioned it).
