I thought you two have the datasheet and the pinout. :-)

And yeah, it may require;

* a modified gpio function register, in case someone only enabled TX and not RX;
* there's some missing debug option? An ifdef or something?
* .. or maybe the debug code isn't there now and we're seeing leftovers?

Personally I'd like to see a gdb stub written up so people can do
remote debugging. But that's just me. :-)
